Vedic House Lords by Bhava
In a whole sign Vedic chart every bhava is ruled by the lord of the sign upon it, and that lord itself occupies some bhava. The bhavesha technique reads the line between the two: the affairs of one area of life are handed to another to be carried out. Twelve such lines exist in any chart, all settled when the chart is cast and none changing with the calendar. The one hundred and forty four forms divide along two segments, the source bhava naming whose affairs are at issue and the occupied bhava showing where they come to ground, as when the lord of wealth sits in the bhava of profession. Read the source first, then see which field it delegates to.
In detail
The technique rests on fixed rulership under the whole sign system: once the rising sign is known the twelve signs fall into order, each bhava takes the lord assigned to its sign by the Parashari table, and the bhava that lord actually occupies completes a line from source to destination. Three layers organise the reading. The source bhava names the class of affairs under discussion and the occupied bhava names the field through which those affairs are realised. The combination of the two sets the direction of strain, since a lord falling into the sixth, eighth or twelfth indicates drain and exposure while one falling into an angle or a trine indicates support and accumulation. Dignity, affliction and co tenants of the lord itself decide the grade, because placement fixes direction and never quality. Variants divide along the two segments, and the productive comparison holds the source fixed across its twelve destinations, then the destination fixed across the twelve sources feeding it.

FAQ
- How does bhavesha differ from simply reading a planet in a house?
- Reading a planet in a house looks at where one body sits. The bhavesha technique looks at where the ruler of a given bhava has gone, so what is read is the line joining two bhavas rather than the position of a single body.
- Does a house lord placement change over time?
- It does not. The rising sign and the positions of the twelve rulers are settled when the birth chart is cast and hold for life; the passage of time can activate such a line but cannot move it.
